At the end of my first year I was invited in a selected group of ten students to follow an extra program: the associate degree. We had the freedom to create a product reflecting on a problem. Growing up on Bonaire, Dutch Caribbean, I have always worried about the damage some tourists, without knowing, bring to our underwater world.
In this project I wanted to find a way to make people aware, immediately after arriving on the island. Therefore I created an impressive experience, one that sticks with you. For in-depth insight in this project, please review the booklet (in Dutch) by clicking the button below.
After witnessing the fragility of coral and the impact humans can have on it, I also want to highlight its potential for renewal. I chose to conclude on a positive note. In this phase of “rebuilding,” I present how coral can be restored and replanted, through methods such as coral nursery towers, for instance.
